Right, posting what I have.

The Akron and her sister airship Macon were giant Navy reconnaissance Zeppelin aircraft carriers. They could launch and recover small scouting biplanes to cover vast expanses of ocean and report to Fleet Command what is going on.

Unfortunately, the both were wrecked in different storms and the Navy canceled the airship recon carrier project.
