The wealthy son of a Swiss millionaire was sentenced to two years probation and a $33,000 fine after he torched his Ferrari 458 so that he could use the insurance money to buy the latest model year.

The Ferrari was one of 15 luxury sports cars that the 20-year-old owns. The Ferrari was a gift from his father, and he told a judge he was afraid of asking his dad to buy him a new one.

Cost of a replacement runs in the neighborhood of $310,000, according to Sky News.

The young man arranged to get a massage as an alibi, then had some arsonists drive the car to Germany and set fire to it in an industrial lot.

Authorities weren't fooled by the plot, and traced the arson back to him through phone records and surveillance video.

His accomplices were sentenced to probations of between 14 and 16 months each.

1975 Trabant - This is the car that gave Communism a bad name. Powered by a two-stroke pollution generator that maxed out at an ear-splitting 18 hp, the Trabant was a hollow lie of a car constructed of recycled worthlessness (actually, the body was made of a fiberglass-like Duroplast, reinforced with recycled fibers like cotton and wood). A virtual antique when it was designed in the 1950s, the Trabant was East Germany's answer to the VW Beetle — a "people's car," as if the people didn't have enough to worry about. Trabants smoked like an Iraqi oil fire, when they ran at all, and often lacked even the most basic of amenities, like brake lights or turn signals. But history has been kind to the Trabi. Thousands of East Germans drove their Trabants over the border when the Wall fell, which made it a kind of automotive liberator. The gearbox features Variable Torque Management which unleashes the engine's massive torque smoothly and powerfully right across the rev range, while specific gear ratios deliver incredibly progressive acceleration when the driver floors the throttle. As is always the case, Ferrari's engineers have dedicated great attention to perfecting the 488 GTB's sound, creating a new soundtrack that is full, clear and totally distinctive, as expected from any Prancing Horse engine.

The car's aerodynamics also made a pivotal contribution to performance: its 1.67 efficiency figure is a new record for a production Ferrari, and is the fruit of 50 per cent more downforce than the previous model and reduced drag. The greatest challenge was achieving these two goals simultaneously. Several innovative elements were specifically developed to do so, not least a double front spoiler, base bleed side intakes and, at the rear, active aerodynamics coupled with a blown spoiler. The aerodynamic underbody, which incorporates vortex generators, is highly sophisticated, too.

The Ferrari 488 GTB's subsystems and electronic controls make its power and performance instantly available and controllable. It is, in fact, the most responsive production model there is, with razor-sharp response times comparable to those of a track car.

The evolved version of Ferrari's side slip angle control system (Side Slip Control 2 - SSC2) is more precise and less invasive, providing greater longitudinal acceleration out of corners. Aside from integrating with car's F1-Trac and E-Diff, the SSC2 now also controls the active dampers which renders the car's dynamic behaviour during complex manoeuvres even flatter and more stable.

Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the new car features very sculptural flanks which are the key to its character. Its large signature air intake scallop is a nod to the original 308 GTB and is divided into two sections by a splitter. The wide front spoiler features a double profile to improve the thermal efficiency of the radiators positioned at the sides. At the centre two pylons are combined with a deflector which channels air towards the flat underbody. The broad, low tail is also dominated by aerodynamic solutions, including an innovative blown spoiler which generates downforce without increasing drag. This works in conjunction with an aggressive ramp angle for the diffuser which features active flaps. The greater height required for the diffuser was achieved by repositioning the exhaust tailpipes. The circular LED tail lights have also been redesigned.

In the cabin, the seamless integration of the new satellite control clusters, angled air vents and instrument panel heightens the sense that the cockpit is completely tailored around the driver. Usability was the key word in the design, leading to an extremely sporty ambience that in no way compromises on comfort. There are plenty of classic Ferrari styling elements too, such as the clear separation between the dashboard and tunnel, the multifunctional steering wheel, the control switch bridge and wraparound seats. The graphics and interface of the infotainment screen have also been completely redesigned while the design of the car's new key takes its inspiration from the car's cylinder banks and allows keyless starts.

We've covered a lot of stories dealing with the Right of First Sale being undermined by digital goods being sold as licenses, rather than products. It's much more rare to find the Right of First Sale being yanked away from paying customers who have purchased physical products. But it happens. You'd think shelling out a quarter-million dollars would allow you to do what you please with your purchase. Think again.
Apparently Ferrari was none to pleased with the custom badges and associated floor mats on Deadmau5's 458 Italia Purrari. So much so that Ferrari North America sent the self-admitted button-pusher a cease and desist to have the custom emblems removed.

Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman) wrapped his 458 in a vinyl tribute to Nyan cat, running it in a few rallies and getting coffee with assorted celebrities and disgraced politicians before it went up for sale.
Deadmau5 didn't share the actual cease and desist order but pointed out later that it specifically mentioned the badges and floor mats. I don't know of a form of protest I respect more. Consciously choosing the most painful way I know of to kill yourself because you don't like what's going on sends a hell of a message, and it's not nearly as open to interpretation as violence is.

Saying "I would rather light myself on fire that put up with this bullshit" and then going out and doing just that is like...damn. If I see someone do that in response to something I'm doing, I'm going to reconsider that thing.

He's going to use it to tow his badass Corrado to shows and as his daily driver.

Looking good is about the only thing they do well. Oh, and they smell good, too. That little bit of unburned fuel that makes its way out of the exhaust when it's cold, fuck yeah.

They're slow, expensive to maintain, and hard to work on. I'm seriously considering swapping a Toyota 3E-E (or a 4A-FE if it'll fit) into mine. Literally 30 more horsepower and even a little more torque, granted it's at a higher RPM.
The fact that the torque peak is at 4000 RPM (bersus the diesel's 2300 RPM) doesn't really make a difference. Both a Tercel and a Rabbit will only make 35 MPH up Yarnell Hill, but the Tercel will make it there faster.

Oh god my brain's doing that thing where it keeps talking and talking and won't shut up. Thinking? Is that what it's called?
