It would be cheaper for you to simply build a bank of IR LEDS to act as the light. Additionally, surefire sells IR filters to only allow IR light out of their lights. You may be able to find said filter cheaper somewhere else. Add in a cheap camera which can see IR light and you are good to go.

Good news everyone!

Got my Bulgarian AK-74 and guess what? An Arduino fits perfectly inside the buttstock, almost like it was made for it. Thanks for the ideas so far, all of them are solid. Looking at it closer, I have some ideas for how to wire things to the barrel, mag well, and buttstock.

- Anyone have an idea what "too hot" for an AK barrel might be in Celsius/Fahrenheit? Is such a thing even worth worrying about?
- The mags are plastic and I have six, so modifications are totally in order.
- I don't have rails ATM, but I'm sure a little bit of elbow grease and I can mount something on the bayonet lug, such as a high-powered IR bulb. If someone has a better idea where I can score some better Gen 0 goggles, I might just cannibalize this for the lulz: http://www.amazon.com/EyeClops-Vision-Infrared-Stealth-Goggles/dp/B00153F5QA Oh, an a photosensor-relay that powers it off when the light is sufficient to conserve battery power.

Wiki describes the differences. Changing to a wider hammer spur and a wide trigger would be drop in parts. Machining the barrel and topstrap for the different sights is getting to be more work than its worth. There would be no easy way to lengthen the grip because the frame extends to the bottom of the grip. You could hypothetically get longer grips that cover the gap left by the frame.

At the end of the day, you'd be better off just getting a Bisley model if you really want one.

Something relatively easy would be a Gen 0 night vision.
Basically, illuminate with IR light and view it with a cheap CVS camera.

Don't be mean. I like this board and I try to get it traffic and stuff.

For the shotgun choke thing, I'd imagine getting it to a gunsmith, getting it reamed a bit, then threaded for choke tubes. Shouldn't be all that expensive.

Screw-sleeve adjustable chokes are fucking cool and I don't know why they're not more popular.

And as little as I know about choking shotguns, I know even less about SAA revolvers so I won't even bother shooting in the dark.
