Mount Gay is awesome, but if it was my company, I'd change the name. Don't care what the Mountain is named. Mount Cleavage or Mount Rum would sell better.
No. 739 ID: 98048a
>>734

I think that if you've been making the same rum for 300 years changing the name is pretty stupid when you considered that language changes constantly.

If I owned the company and someone even suggested that I should change the name because of the homosexual connotation to the word I'd have him tied down on a sunny Barbados beach and have him trampled by the company brontosaurus.

tl;dr = homophobia is one thing, you're just an idiot.

You might consider rebranding your product if your sales were down due to a negative connotation associated with and old family name. Unless of course you aren't bottling rum for profit.

Either way, it's not my homophobia that is causing the problem, since I buy their rum and strongly encourage bi-sexuality in the women around me. Its the bulk of their other customers homophobia thats the problem. Sales aren't down because their rum is bad or even priced badly, thats for sure.

For a bug out bag, I'd go with a small bottle of something you really like. Lets face it, if you're seriously into the bag then bad shit has happened and you deserve something nice.

I reward myself with Don Julio 1942 tequila, Bush Mills special reserve scotch, and other high end spirits. Unfortunately, they don't come in small bottles, so you might want to pick up a nice metal and transplant.

Personally, I'm not putting anything for barter really into my bug out bag. It only has to get me from point A to point B, alive and preferably healthy.

This is the standard, but I enjoy a good scotch or vodka every now and then. Just picked up some Glenrothes Select reserve Single Malt that I'm looking forward to trying. Iceberg vodka is impossibly fantastic, and at $20 a bottle, completely worth every cent. >"I drink absinthe, look a painting of the guy who went crazy and cut of his own ear from drinking the shit, i'm a REAL MAN"

Oh please, do shut up. Absinthe only caused problems because of the toxic chemicals added to cheap absinthe to enhance the green colour. Wormwood isn't psychoactive, it just causes muscle spasms in large doses.
Also, van Goch only cut off his earlobe, not his entire ear.

That said, I prefer Duplais Verte.

Studies have certainly shown that alpha-thujone (active ingredient in absinthe/wormwood) can cause convulsions in high doses, leading to death once an extremely high point is reached (~60mg/kg).

The main sticking point is that frequent and habitual use of the chemical can cause imbalances in certain chemicals; leading to insomnia, paranoia, anxiety, and even schizophrenia.

It is not responsible for any sort of hallucinations or anything similar. The desired and common effect of alpha-thujone on the brain is a sense and feeling of euphoria.

The fact that absinthe is 90% alcohol traditionally probably doesn't hurt that effect.

So Halloween is coming up. Looks like I'll be getting drunk with a few (girl) friends. Any recommendations on what kind of alcohol to bring? I just got 750ml of "Maloney's Irish Cream," so I might be bringing that, but it seems more like something I'd drink at home alone after a long day. I was thinking I might get some wild turkey. Or if I go the beer route something with fliptop bottles, like Grolsh, so that I can re-use the bottles again in homebrewing endevors. As for homebrewed stuff... I just bottled a grape mead so i could take some of that... but it really hasn't aged more than about 6 months.

I am lost.

When serving women, I tend to recommend fruity mixed drinks. I have to agree with the poster who said they don't like the taste of alcohol but do like sweet. I tend to stick with mixed vodka and tequila drinks. In all cases, use good alcohol; the cheap stuff just makes the chick sick and then no one has a good time.

Cosmopolitan - an awesome chick drink. I tend to go with a 1/2/4 mix of Cointreau, Vodka (citron variety for extra points), and Cranberry/Cranapple juice. Add a squeeze of lime and shake with ice. Serve in a martini glass. Increase the amount of cran juice if the girls think they're too strong.

No pic cause that would require getting up.

I have a decent selection.

1) Vodka (stoli I think).
2) Gin (Bombay)
3) Hennessy
4) Hypnotiq
5) JC Gold (Tequilla)
6) Kahlua
7) Baileys
8) Some Bacardi Rum
9) Jack Daniels.

Etc. I just like having choices. :). Much more to come in the coming months when I have more money.

Which is funny. I hardly drink.

Whiskeys I enjoy...Black Bushmills Whiskey, Powers Gold Label Whiskey(for a more everyday whiskey), SoCo every now and then, and of course Scottish whiskey can't be ignored(no particular brand I can think of)

Hennessy's cognac is a great drink, I really enjoy that from time to time

Ciders...Blackthorn cider(only drink I ever blacked out drinking, heavy stuff), Linden Village Cider(delicious), Bulmers Irish Cider, Druids Celtic Cider, and a couple more

beer...Heniken, budwiser, carlsburg, not a huge fan of beer, but I can really enjoy a cold one.

Vodka...not a fan, I only drink it when I'm drunk as shit already(which can be fun actually)

various other drinks I'm too tired to talk about, but short list, gordons gin, Jägermeister(when mixed right, don't like it striaght), a nice wine can be good, Wild Turkey and a few more I can't think of.

also cheap white wine in those 3-5 litre boxes are great for chugging if you can stomach it

Bourbon: Maker's Mark and Knob Creek

Scotch: Glenfidditch, or Laphroaige (weird name; some of the smokiest scotch I've ever had.)

Vodka: y'know, the one clear one (relax, obviousjoke is obvious)

Beer: Icehouse ('cause I like beer I can taste), PBR, Guinness

Jade Edouard for absinthe. Anyone know of any good places to order from (that ship to the US?)? The last one that I was using used private couriers or some shit; they stopped that after getting butthurt about something, I guess.

Sorry for destroying your dreams. But your right, it tastes like Corona only a bit sweeter and more citrus like. Was my favourite beer for some time but you spend 2,50€ (Roughly 3,60$) for a bootle of 750ml (25 .Oz). In comparison an average beer is about 1€ (1,43$) for 1L (33,8 .Oz).

Protip: Absente isn't actual absinthe but some cheap shit they sold in America before legal absinthe began to be imported. >>3378 would have pointed that out if he wasn't busy raging for no reason. Anyway, I went through a few month when I was ordering a lot of absinthe from Germany until I realized it tasted like shit and that I had a pretty heavy drinking problem. I bought that bottle of Absente when I was 18 (Canadian liquor laws FTW), and still had it three year later when I took that picture. Incidentally I've moved since then, started drinking gin and I still have that same bottle of Absente. It tastes like shitty sambuca, and I can't seem to get rid of it. So okay, to put this to rest, "absinthe is pretentious, and most of what you can buy here isn't the real deal anyhow. The real deal for that matter isn't some magical psychotropic wunderbooze, but the hype around it has cultivated this image in North American society".

Apr 15, 2009 10:00 AM CDT-Professional jockey Robby Albarado poses with the Woodford Reserve $1,000 Mint Julep Cup. (Photo: Business Wire) LOUISVILLE, Ky.– (BUSINESS WIRE) — On the first Saturday in May at the Kentucky Derby, Woodford Reserve bourbon will offer a one-of-a-kind tribute to jockeys with the ultimate collectible: the world’s most exclusive mint julep cup. A collection of 99 sterling silver cups plated in 24-karat gold – a select few adorned with diamonds and signed by Triple Crown®-winning jockeys Ron Turcotte, Jean Cruguet and Steve Cauthen – the Woodford Reserve $1,000 Mint Julep Cup is available for purchase online from April 13-29. No. 12455 ID: 9ee728
Owners of the Woodford Reserve $1,000 Mint Julep Cup will enjoy a mint julep featuring a unique set of ingredients from around the globe: sugar cane cut and crushed by hand from Sainte Marie in the Reunion Island of France; Turkish mint grown near the Euphrates River; ice made of water from an aquifer in the wilderness of Central Norway; and a small batch of the Master Distiller’s personal selection of Woodford Reserve super-premium bourbon. The 99 gold cups will be presented on Kentucky Derby Day at one location only.

“Woodford Reserve is proud to honor jockeys as the athletes who lead the way to the finish line at the Kentucky Derby and on racetracks across the country,” said Wayne Rose, Woodford Reserve brand director. “Through the sale of these julep cups, we look forward to assisting The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and The Robby Albarado Foundation.”

New England Sterling, the official trophy maker of the Kentucky Derby, created 99 of the sterling cups plated in 24-karat gold. Each cup comes with an oak box crafted from the same wood as Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels and is lined with black satin fabric. The cups will be available for purchase and auction at www.woodfordreservemintjulep.com.

Sailor Jerry

This rum has, not only more flavor and alcoholic content than Captain Morgan, but also a lower price. In addition to such, the brand was named after a grizzled Naval sailor who traveled the United States practicing his skills as a tattoo-artist.

Every label has a photograph of him smoking his pipe, along with a tattoo of a sexy Hawaiian lady.

Down the sink! Feh! Terrible, harsh garbage!

Kidding, of course! Marvelous stuff, but can be quite pricey:

Laphroaig® 25 Year Old 2008 – Laphroaig 25 Year Old makes its U.S. debut revealing the remarkable result 25 years of aging in the finest Oloroso Sherry and American Oak casks has on the world’s most distinctive malt. The whisky is a rare combination of bold peat flavor spiced with sweet sherry notes and rich oaky undertones. Creamy, smooth, full of character and complexity, the marriage of woods intertwines to form a perfectly balanced unity. Bottled in 2008 at cask strength (51.2% ABV), Laphroaig 25 Year Old brilliantly fuses two different styles into a single, remarkable experience. I tried barleywine for the first time today and it was... different. Heavy barley flavor but sweet and a serious kick (11% ABV). The appearance of barleywine can range from light, cloudy to black opaque.

Barleywine is a beer style of strong ale originating in England. A barley wine typically reaches an alcohol strength of 8 to 12% by volume and is brewed from specific gravities as high as 1.120. It is called a barley wine because it can be as strong as wine; but since it is made from grain rather than fruit, it is, in fact, a beer.

Most barley wines range in colour from amber to deep reddish-browns, though until the introduction of Whitbread Gold Label in the 1950s, British barley wines were always dark in colour. All are rich and full-flavored.

Writer Michael Jackson referred to a barley wine by Smithwick's thus: "This is very distinctive, with an earthy hoppiness, a wineyness, lots of fruit and toffee flavours." He also noted that its original gravity is 1.062. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barley_wine

Here's Lindeman's Apple Lambic:

Long before hops were common in most beers, various fruits and herbs were used to season beers. The clean, bright aroma and flavor of apples melds beautifully with the complex tartness of lambic. Smooth, light body with the fresh flavor of real apples and a light green-apple tartness.

Color: Glowing Gold.

Taste: Perfect with rich cream sauces, hearty soups, aromatic cheeses and spicy cuisine - supremely refreshing. Serve in flute-shaped Lambic glasses at 38-41 degrees F.

Serve cold at 2-3 degrees Celsius. http://www.hidemyipaddress.org/browse.php/Oi8vd3d3/LmxpbmRl/bWFucy5i/ZS9zdGFy/dC9hcHBs/ZS9lbj9Q/SFBTRVNT/SUQ9NjA4/Njg5NWU4/ODhlNjFm/Y2E2NGEx/MDA5OTkw/

The Chimay Brewery ("Bières de Chimay") is a Belgian brewery founded inside Scourmont Abbey, in the Belgian municipality of Chimay in 1862. The brewery produces three widely distributed ales and a patersbier exclusively for the monks; they are known as Trappist beers because they are made in a Trappist monastery. The brewing plant was updated in 1988, and as of 2005 produced 120,000 hectolitres annually.

Since 1876 the monastery has also made cheese, and currently offers four cheeses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimay_Brewery

Scourmont Abbey (Abbaye Notre-Dame de Scourmont) is a Trappist monastery on the Scourmont plateau, in the village of Forges which is part of Chimay in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. The abbey is famous for its spiritual life, and the Chimay Brewery which it runs, one of the few Trappist breweries.

Life in the abbey is characterised by prayer, reading and manual work, the three basic elements of Trappist life.

There are currently seven monasteries of the Trappist order in the Netherlands and Belgium that brew beer. No one else is allowed to label their beers Trappist – you’ll see a lot of “Trappist-style” beers around, which is all well and good, but no monk touched those and the profits probably aren’t supporting monks or charities.

The Trappists are an offshoot of the Cistercians, a Catholic order that emphasizes self-sufficiency and manual labor. Also known as Cistercians of the Strict Observance, the order originated at the abbey of Le Trappe in France in 1664, when the abbot there decided that Cistercians in general were becoming too liberal.

There used to be Trappist breweries all over France and Belgium, but the French Revolution and the two World Wars pretty much took care of all the French breweries. Trappists aren’t the only monks who brew beer, but they’ve definitely been the most active brewers throughout their history.

There are currently seven active Trappist breweries: Chimay, Orval, Westvleteren, Rochefort, Westmalle, Achel and Koningshoeven. They generally produce ales in three different strengths – single, dubbel, and tripel – but the ABV of the different beers isn’t all that precise. While Chimay is probably the most well-known of the Trappist beers in the United States, this author urges you to try pretty much any of the ales from Westmalle if you haven’t already. http://edukatorz.com/tag/alcohol/

Really?

Buying it in a pub here will be about 3 to 3.5 euros. Buying it at a supermarket is obviously much cheaper though.

The same price range for Duvel & Karmeliet which were also in my picture.

As for your mention of Westmalle, it'll do but as a trappist it's not all that good. The best is Westvleteren (triple), but that's hard to find, even in Belgium.
