Suppose I'm looking for a simple scope, not to be mounted to a rifle, but to act as a monocular. It would need to be very durable, as it would hypothetically be carried often or every day. It would need to be as simple as possible. High magnification is very much preferred, and cross hairs are a must. having some kind of flat side to rest it on a level surface is nice, but not necessary.

I'm looking for proper cleaning equipment for my .308 rifle. I have been using a 3 piece rod and I have seen much talk that the safest way to clean a gun is with a bore guide and a one piece rod. I feel like how I'm currently doing it, is wrong. Plus I don't understand the entire cotton patch bullshit.

I've never done it but it would seem to me co-witnessing your irons with an optic pretty much removes any advantage you gained from the optic? If you're co-witnessing you may as well save your money and just use irons, because you're sight profile is gonna look just the same as it did with irons alone.

Any Tennessee airsoft operators about? I don't have any airsoft weapons, but I've been interested in the sport for a while, but personally I'd rather get a gaymen laptop before I invested in any part of airsoft. A job would definitely help me in that area but now I'm just rambling.

So guys, let me tell you of my plight. My father decided its time for me to learn how to clean a gun, and I am more than fine with this. However, I do not want to screw up and have him think I am a complete fuck up of a son and don't deserve to hold any guns ever again, let alone inherit or fire them. He gave me what I believe to be a pretty basic run down of what to do, which includes:
1. Take the guns apart
2. Run a bore snake through the barrels to clean
3. Apply Hoppes #9 Powder Solvent to places needed (HELP NEEDED)
4. Oil the gun in the areas where I applied Hoppes.
5. Wipe the outside of the gun with a dry cloth
6. Grease the gun (was told to wait for my father to get home so I could learn/not fuck everything up)
7. Reassemble the guns

When I got my Mosin, I only gave the bolt assembly a light cleaning, and would eventually get around to cleaning the entire rifle when I got supplies and the time.

I put it away for a few weeks to come back to this ungodly sight.

Hey guys, I need help here.. I stripped the threads off of one of the holes on top of the receiver while installing the base... it's the second to last one, towards the back of the receiver..

Fucking aluminum reciever..

wat do?

I just put some loctite on the screw and let it sit there for now... I doubt it'll affect anything anyway.. but am I wrong?

I have this vest. I thought it was kevlar, but I recently noticed that it's made from "100% Allied Spectra"

Now from what I gather on the internet, it's more valuable than kevlar, but how much more valuable? I've been having trouble finding it, since everyone I find selling body armor says theirs is kevlar. I can't find spectra vests anywhere, or maybe I'm not looking right.

Can anyone give me an estimate on how much more valuable this is than kevlar? Or if I've got it wrong?

Instead of flipping open with an inside handle knob like most knives, it has a little knob on the outside of the blade that you flip with your index finger. I like it better, seems easier to open it that way. It's VERY sharp too, I nicked myself with it and didn't even notice until I saw the blood on my finger. Best part is, even though the site lists it at $80, I only paid 40 bucks for it :D
What do you guys think? Any comments on the quality of Kershaw's knives? This is the first speed folding knife I've bought.

Why is Full Metal Jacket such a beloved military film?

GSG9 loses vs SWAT. I call shenanigans on a lot of the testing. GSG9 was using slugs in a shotgun vs the SWAT using buckshot, thus allowing the SWAT guy to hit more targets per shot than the GSG9 guy. The GSG9 guy was also not trying with his shotgun, taking a shit-ton of time to pump the action between shots, more than necessary.
SWAT gets Taser Shockwave, basically a Taser claymore. When the GSG9 guy points out that his stingball grenade is portable compared to the Shockwave, the SWAT guys insist on testing a Taser on it's own...and because of the single unit Taser being tested and being better at single target incapacitation, the SWAT wins...despite their weapon needing to be set up and manned.

Thankfully, the PSG-1 won against the Remington 700..

Folder vs Fixed Blade

Serration vs Straight

I'm looking to get a new knife combo. I've been EDCing a Gerber Paraframe with serrations and it has served me well. But the coating is coming off and has generally seen better days. Probably had it about 4 years.

Every EDC folder I have ever had, has had serrations. Half the time that's good, half the time it's not so good.

I have no idea what folder I want.

As for a new fixed blade, I've never owned a quality one. I really liked the SOG SEAL pup elite that I toyed with at a recent gun show.

If YOU were to get serrations one type (fixed or folder) and no serrations on the other, what combination would you go for?

Much ado has been made about Tactical Carbines and Rifles in the last 5 years, with many gun owners sinking thousands of dollars into their EBR's of choice, buying Kydex and Codura by the boatload, and it seems to me that often these people are "Keeping up with the Joneses". I've never been accused of being terribly progressive when it comes to small-arms, but my reasoning for that is a function of my experiences as a war-fighter, and my lack of ability to see the worth is always having what is considered "Cool" in the OPERATOR magazines.

Don't mistake me, I love AR's and AK's, they are damn fine weapons, but at the end of the day, my shooting philosophy does not center around Mozambique drills and room clearing, but the venerable Bolt

I'm an automotive technician and I needed a new flashlight. I wanted long battery life with rechargeables, high output, and durability. I was going to get something from Surefire but prices for something with higher output were ridiculous. Not to mention they'd eat 10 dollar cr123 batteries like candy. OPchan,

I accidentally my Glock. I've field stripped it quite a few times with no problems, but when I went to reassemble it today, it started acting up.
The slide goes on fine until the very last little bit, and then it just stops and refuses to go all the way back/lock onto the frame. I have no idea how to fix this and I feel like a retard.

I've tried taking out/putting back the barrel and recoil spring assembly to make sure they weren't just a little bit off, but with the same results.

I'll delete this if/when I get a response that works. Thanks OPERATORS.

Every natural and manmade disaster to date has overwhelmed the communications capabilities of both the private and public sector in the affected areas. This is something that just happens. Everyone thinks they have to contact their family/friends/whatever NOW to make sure they're ok, and the phone system gets clogged. Things start happening quickly and need responding to, so all of a sudden 911 systems are overwhelmed, as well as the radio networks for emergency services now have tons more traffic due to tons more situations requiring some level of response.

What this means for us as OPERATORS is that your most obvious standard communication methods will most likely fail.

In this little apartment I really don't have the room. I will get back into it later but I just can't atm.

Rock Chucker Supreme Reloader
.308 dies, full length
Powder scale
Powder thrower
A couple hundred useable (but needs cleaning) .308 brass
800 or so primers
Basic caliper

Basically all you need to start reloading besides a case head annealer. If anyone's interested, I'd be willing to part with the whole lot for $500 plus shipping, which will be ground and cheap since as head of a shipping department I get a big discount.

Coffee to me is worthless because I don't drink it but since most of America is addicted to it it would be worth A LOT. I'm planning to go on an extended hike through the Appalachian Mountains. I live in Florida so I'll be starting at Georgia. I'll be going with a friend, and we're both 21.


However, I've never been on a hike longer than one afternoon. I don't even have a tent or a sleeping bag yet (not even a BOB, but I figure now is a good time to start, and practice)


Don't get me wrong- I was in the boy scouts so I've erected and slept in a tent before, but I've never hiked 50 miles with 30+lbs on my back. I've also car-camped at Palo Duro canyon in Texas, and gone rock climbing there. I just wanted to go to a more woodland, mountainous area this time. This is also probably where I'll head to when SHTF.

I think this deserves a discussion.
Gardening. If anyone has tips, advice, experiences with gardening or raising chickens or something, please post it here.
I am sure many vegetables that grow on vines will have multiple harvests. SO you can eat, and save some to replant later. Things like beans are easy to grow, harvest, and get new seeds obviously.
Chickens, you will obviously need a henhouse, a fenced in area, and a rooster. acquiring food for them, i dont know. Maybe you can grow corn, and use some of that to feed them.

Treating gunshot wounds.
1. Make sure the guy(s) who shot you are dead/gone.
2. Hold still, avoid moving unless immediately in danger.
3. Put pressure on the wound, attempt to stop the bleeding. Hold for five minutes before checking if bleeding is controlled.
4. If bleeding doesn't stop, raise whatever part of the body is hurt. If your leg is shot, prop it up. If it's a shoulder wound, try to sit up instead of lie down.
5. If bleeding continues, apply pressure to a pressure point.
6. If you still won't stop bleeding, or are pressed for time, apply a tourniquet either now, or as step 4 if in a rush.
7. If you can see the blood vessel and have a hemostat, clamp it.
8. Once bleeding is controlled, apply a sterile dressing and antiseptic. If bleed

Chow at the DFAC's a bit better than the one back at Bliss. King Crab legs and hangersteaks on Friday nights. I hear it gets even better downrange, and even if you're not on a FOB the outposts give you the mad pogue bait. The servers wear paper hats, bow ties, and black vests.

The Great Steak & Potato Co. is better than any one I've eaten at Stateside. Also, Mirinda is the best orange soda I've had, even better than Slice. Subway's has this one kind of beef that's thinly sliced and it looks but doesn't taste like pastrami. They put balsamic vinegar on it, and it tastes excellent.

They tried the "hurr durr bring in an owner's manual" crap with me last time I bought .357 ammo. I don't have an owner's manual for my 1894, but I had the fucking rifle in my trunk.

I went back to the car, loaded my remaining rounds, and stormed the walmart sporting goods counter. I leveled the barrel at the old man's head, while blading at a 45 degree angle and screaming for him to hand over the ammo. He stuttered, and fumbled in his pockets for the key to the case... but I had no time for his disrespect, so I let three rounds loose into center mass. He dropped the keys, and I picked up all the ammo I could fit in a cart.

Emu war thread. When Australia waged war on flightless birds, and lost. Basically, two Lewis gun crews with 5000 rounds of ammunition each were sent out to thin out in the population of emus in western Australia. After fireing all their ammo, they had killed around 13 birds. 19987 birds were left. Mission failed. Epicly failed.

Knife fighting is a dangerous game, and everyone involved will most likely come out seriously wounded. Thankfully these fights are rare, but sometimes you just don't have a choice. Here's a video about the IDF's knife fighting training, which is said to be very proven. It will teach you the basics, position, blocking and attacking, defending and assaulting. You'll have a much better chance for survival and it will give you the confidence you need in the instinctual fights that involve knives.
